Easy fun project. Kid can help do the LEDs. Instructions call transistors “triodes” incorrectly.
This was a fun project. My 6 year old helped populate the red LEDs. The included instructions were very helpful for assembly; however, for understanding HOW the circuit works, the instructionshasve some mistranslations that led me down the wrong path. For example, the instructions called one of the parts a “triode” and for the longest time I was trying to find out about solid-state triodes because I had never heard of one (triodes are a kind of vaccum tube) before I realized that no, they’re not weird solid-state triodes, they’re TRANSISTORS just like I thought that they were.

Review from Unboxing Only – I’m Impressed
I’m impressed with packaging and it’s relation to the instructions. The kit comes in several ziplocks labeled A to D, and then the instructions are in the order of those ziplocks. The instructions are clear, with only minor grammar issues. There are graphics in the instructions too. I even got a “practice” ziplock to practice soldering (a practice, practice kit). I ordered the 2x kit, so maybe that made me a VIP. There’s lots of components to solder & my objective is to learn to solder, so it’s just right.Note: I think there’s a misprint in Step 2, which I think would put the triode in backwards, but I’m still researching that, so I won’t ding them on that. It could be me. I’ll ask them the question and see how customer service works.

Fantastic soldering practice kit for beginners looking to take the next step!
This is one of the better soldering kits I’ve seen. It includes pretty much every type of component a beginner should know about: a variety of resistors, capacitors, transistors, LEDs, etc, as well as two CD4017 decade counters and 555 timers each. There’s not only a lot to solder, but it’s also a practical demonstration of these commonly used components. This is the type of thing a college student might build as a class project. I would especially recommend this if you’re an experienced engineer looking to get a gift for someone who you can help explain some of these parts to.

Superb kit!
Soldering is always fun but I am not the best. This one was tricky and took awhile! Instructions were not an issue. All parts were included. Having to get the LEDs just right and soldering all of them was great practice! Would buy again.
