Educational, practical, entertaining, and useful
This is an excellent quality item for soldering practice, as well as fun project with countless uses. It displays from 50 millimeters to 4 meters in metric. That’s about 2 inches to 13 feet. If you plan to use it for social distancing, which works fine, be warned that nice soft fuzzy clothes will asorb rather than reflect the signal. Six feet is roughly 2 meters (1.8288). It is excellent for sensing a vehicle backing up in a garage, or a vehicle in the driveway.INSTRUCTIONSS4 press and hold to enter programming mode.S3 range increases S2 range decreasesS4 to exit programming mode.MODIFICATIONS: To be able to operate this device from either batteries or a 5v DC wall wart, the battery holder wires can be spliced to a salvaged cord/plug from a wall wart. To allow the sensor to be moved around independent of the circuit board, a header can be added, and the sensor connected via a ribbon cable or wires. I added a socket for the display to raise it up higher to use a custom built case. I also added a header (socket) for the buzzer which provides an option to connect a relay to operate a device such as a warning light.CAUTION! Be careful, the parts under the IC need to lay flat to allow the IC chip to seat. The power button can go in two ways, but only one is right (see PDF). Some components like the 10uf capacitor, led, and buzzer are polarity sensitive. Overall, it’s a great product for learning to solder. It is entertaining, practical and fun to use. It’s well designed, carefully packaged, with a high quality circuit board and components. It included a few extra parts, which was thoughtful. I only wish it had four mounting holes rather than two. Download and study the PDF before starting. Don’t forget to take the coverings off the buzzer and the 7 segment display! If you are new to soldering and components, expect to spend a day or so putting it together. If you are skilled, you can build it in less than an hour. It’s useful and well worth the investment in time an money.

Fun and simple, but few instructions
This was a fun little practise project! This was my first attempt at soldering since electronics classes in high school two decades ago, and everything went smoothly. The good:* the PCB silkscreen markings are legible and tell you where each piece goes.* Came with a couple of spare components; one of each type of resistor and two spare ceramic capacitors. I didnât need them however itâs always nice to have spares in case something does go wrong during assembly. The not as good:* There are no step by step instructions available, you have to just put the components in the place based on photographs. There is some documentation available from the link on the product page here on Amazon which I would recommend viewing. Itâs not step by step, but it does provide some information about the polarity of some of the components. It wasnât too difficult to figure out how to put it together just from the pictures, but do bear this in mind in advance.* I still am not entirely sure where the battery holder would connect to the device; I didnât connect it because the 5V DC jack works well. If you are planning on buying this to actually use as a portable range finder you might need to do more research to find out where to connect the battery.* Itâs not a high precision range finder by any means so donât buy it thinking you can use it to measure rooms or something like that. Itâs perfectly accurate for things like a parking distance alarm in your garage, though.* Inserting the microprocessor into the socket is terrifying because thereâs no instruction and the pins need to be squeezed in a bit to fit into the socket. In the end it went in fine for me, but it was the only time during the project where I was genuinely concerned I would irreparably break something.I would recommend this. It was a fun and simple project.

Nice kit that works
When you buy one of these electronic kits that labels itself as a soldering practice kit, you can pretty much kiss the possibility of instructions or info goodbye. It would have been nice to have but itâs pretty well silk screen labeled on the board so it wasnât hard to figure out. I had to find the positive trace to be sure I was hooking up the electrolytic capacitor correctly but it wasnât difficult to figure out. I later realized that the way I soldered it in wouldnât allow for the chip to seat right in its socket, so I unsoldered it and put on the back of the board. It some ways, a kit without instructions or even a picture of the finished product forces you into problem solving mode and you learn more I had to figure out what buttons did what so I labeled them for future reference. The USB cable for power is nice, but they give you a battery holder as an alternative, which is nice, but no holes to solder the leads into. Another thing to figure out, but not a big deal. All in all, itâs a nice kit. Had an extra two resistors and a capacitor, apparently just in case, but was easy to figure out where things went. Nice solid pcb and once constructed, works well to gauge distance in meters using the ultrasonic sensors and the led display showing the distance was a nice feature to add as it helps you to know what itâs sensing. Five stars only due to it having nothing but parts, but that was all that was advertised. Not even a picture was included so I had to go back to the listing to make sure I was putting in one part the right way. Would have been nice, but just know it wonât be included.

PDF guide difficult to find, but is there
There is a PDF that is difficult to find on the product page, but it is there. It is a guide including parts list and instructions.
