Fun kit that is easy to build and works very well!
This is a very good kit for someone interested in soldering practice without having to worry about tiny surface mount components. Assembly should take less than an hour or so, depending on the user’s experience.The board is clearly marked, and the parts themselves are clearly identified. The resistors in my kit are from a section of “tape and reel”, and the values are stamped on the tape. Resistor color bands can also be used to identify resistor values, though the instructions don’t specify what colors the different bands should be. This isn’t a big issue these days since color codes are easy to find online.Finally, the kit also includes a schematic in addition to the easy-to-follow assembly directions. The schematic can come in handy for troubleshooting if any problems come up, and can also be used to give experimenters ideas for circuit modification. And while this circuit isn’t as sensitive as many metal detectors, it can be handy around the house.

Nice design
The quality of this kit is good, and it offers a variety of practice modules, such as LED lights, buzzers, and potentiometers. These modules are great for helping me learn different soldering techniques for various components. Once you complete all the modules, you get to assemble a handheld metal detector. The detector works by emitting a buzzing sound and flashing an LED light when it detects metal. It can detect metal on both sides without needing direct contact with the object, which is a nice feature.The circuit board is sturdy, with clear printing, and the electronic components are of decent quality. The kit even comes with spare parts in case you lose or damage anything, which is very thoughtful.The kit also includes a detailed instruction manual that walks you through the soldering steps for each module. For additional help, you can access the website, where you can view images of the assembly process. You can zoom in on the pictures to easily see the details, making it much easier to follow along and understand the soldering steps.The kit itself is compact and portable, so itâs easy to carry around. However, a minor downside is that many of the electronic components look very similar and are difficult to distinguish at first glance. The markings are quite small, so youâll need a magnifying glass to read them, which can slow down your progress.Once assembled, the finished metal detector feels more like a toy. Its sensitivity is somewhat underwhelming, as it only detects larger metal objects at close range. But as a soldering practice kit, itâs still a solid choice for beginners looking to improve their skills

Perfect kit to start out in soldering
This kit includes everything a user might need to get started in soldering. Well, except the soldering iron, flux, and solder of which they must supply for themselves. All the parts are neatly labeled, stored in various zip-lock bags for clear organization, and packed inside of an electrostatic bag. So there’s no time wasted on making sure the user is soldering the right resistor nor there’s even an off-handed chance that the user might receive a dead-on-arrival due to an errant static charge.The kit itself consists of only maybe 30 components aside from the main board itself. Resistors, transistors, capacitors, LED diodes, of that nature. The included instructions include pictures for those visually-oriented. The user can scan a QR code printed on the instructions that leads that to a webpage with a more detailed set of instructions and pictures but I did not find that to be necessary at all.There’s a total of 12 steps required from start to finish. But the kit comes with the power button pre-installed and one of the steps is inserting the batteries in. So it’s really 10 steps in total and again, there’s only 30 or so components to solder. Safe to say, completing this kit is really easy and something that I can easily recommend to beginners and youths alike.The metal detector does work but its detection range is limited to a few inches at the most. Plus, the kit doesn’t include a housing for the board so it’s not exactly ergonomic nor robust for practical use. It’s more of a proof-of-concept, more so in the sense that the user is practicing to become competent in soldering.All in all, it’s a nice kit with a clear set of instructions and one that includes a few spare parts to forgive minor mistakes that can surely happen from inexperience. It’s also fairly priced to boot. 5 out of 5 stars, highly recommended for beginners.

A fun and easy project
If you are new to soldering, this is a good kit to build. All of the components are of the through-hole variety, so even novices should be able to build this kit without much trouble.Interestingly, mine came with the power button pre-installed. I think the reason for this might be that the circuit requires that some of the six pins on the switch are jumpered together, and perhaps the designers didn’t want folks to have to bother with that.The project went together pretty quickly. I was done in under an hour.Scanning the QR code in the assembly instructions will take you to a web site where operation of the detector is described. In short, though, once the board is assembled and the batteries installed, you will need to calibrate it. This is very easy to do: Turn the blue potentiometer fully clockwise, then counterclockwise until it just starts to buzz, then slightly clockwise until it stops. That’s all there is to it.Note that actual detection will require that you get pretty close to the object being detected. The smaller the object, the closer you will need to get to detect it.
