Not a gimmick, actually a cool tool!
I thought the solder feeding mechanism would be a gimmick but it’s actually useful and works pretty well. I am glad I bought this!

Awesome. But it has its drawbacks.
The good- *gets hot in 10 secs. *The feeder spool of solder is great when needed. *The portability. * Durability, very well made. *Lots of extra tipsThe Bad- *heavy once connected to battery. *goes through Ryobi full charge batteries rather fast. *Due to extra size and weight, arm will fatigue rather quickly. *KEY: have plenty of EXTRA BATTERIES. a full charge batter lasts about 15 mins tops. *Does not do well in tight spaces.I still recommend this product since I’m still impressed w its performance. But it’s not the ideal choice for very small projects or projects in tight spaces.

Cheaply built and solder is very thin
The best critique I have for this soldering gun is its ability to use a Makita battery which is what sold me and with which its works well – to – OK The problems are that the solder wire thickness is too thin requiring close and careful solder wire amount and heat for melting. Lastly, the gun is cheaply built.
