Worked awesome for a beginner solderer like me.
I had been wanting to learn how to properly solder, so even though this is something that is ostensibly catered more toward kids, I thought it would be a fun little way to work on joints (certainly more satisfying than the PBC I’d taken out of a busted up charging brick that I had been playing with).It’s all pretty simple and straightforward, but there are very basic directions included to get you rolling. You can essentially go by sight, but it does have diagram for you if you are so inclined to get into the nitty gritty of what’s what.When all was said and done, I popped in the some batteries and have a nifty little rocket that lights up whenever it senses a sound nearby. It’s useless, sure, but it really did make for an interesting way to practice soldering and actually get something out of it, as well (since you know pretty quickly whether you messed up or not).Only complaint I have really is that the white paint on the fin of the rocket had a defect (see my photo). Not a deal-breaker, but still worth noting.

If you’re wanting something more in-depth that’s going to take an hour or so; this kit isn’t for youBut if you’re wanting a fun STEM project that introduces someone to soldering this is the perfect kit. It’s simple with just enough soldering points to be quick yet rewarding when you’re finished

An overly simple solder practice project.
A little pricey for what you get and a bit disappointing in that much of assembly is already completed surface mount stuff. I would ordinarily not be too harsh with something like that in a beginner kit except that the kit’s page claims to help the builder “not only learn essential soldering techniques but also gain a deeper understanding of circuitry and electronics” this fails to deliver:1. Lacks any really useful and young learner appropriate documentations2. The truly interesting bits are already assembled an basically unexplainedI’m not sure what ‘deeper understanding’ they must be refering to, but it’s not found in this kit.

Good Beginner Kit
I haven’t actually built this kit yet, saving it to work on with the grandson, but from the looks of it, it’s going to be a great beginner kit. The instructions are clear, the parts are separated, and the difficult chips are already on the board.I’m already happy with this kit, but I’ll update the review if we find something in the build that takes away from the 5 star rating.

Had a lot of fun with this…
I have had a LOT of fun soldering this kit together. It’s also been a very good reminder that I need to continue to brush up on my soldering skills as some of them need sharpening. I was able to get a good flow going after a while and I indeed got it to work the way that it’s intended. I also did avoid messing up anything and having to correct any traces or anything like that. I wanted to test this out to see how well it would be for a kid to do and I think I will be ordering another in the future. It comes with all of the items that you need, save for a soldering iron, flux, and solder. You can likely get away without flux but I learned it does help me a bit. This is a good kit for the value it presents and I highly recommend it.Pros:Comes with all the items needed (aside from the soldering iron and solder)Circuit board seems to be made wellFun, super fun!Good practiceVery good valueCons:None so far (I would list my soldering skills but that wouldn’t be fair)This kit seems to be setup to allow anyone to practice soldering some cool DIY electronics. While the final result isn’t the most fun, the journey was a blast and a good value to boot.

Can’t wait to build this rocket!!
This is a soldering project that my husband and son are going to do. They have not gotten to it yet. It will simulated a rocket launch with sound and light. All the STEM projects we have done have been absolutely great!!! So, I have no doubts this one will too. STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and math. These four fields share an emphasis on innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking. And together they make up a popular and fast-growing industry. All the STEM projects are great and I have no doubts this one will also!
