Great price and everything anyone could need in a helping hand tool.
I looked all over Amazon and retail stores for one of these to help me solder (I make and modify “electronic cigarette,” personal vaporizer box mods.I have no idea what the negative reviews are talking about. I paid as much for this as one of those flimsy “octopus” bendable 4 post alligator clip holders that I see around frys and other places. It is definitely a sufficiently heavy metal base to keep it from falling over. It arrived put together but loosened and took a few seconds to tighten into working order. It is extremely easy to move each part and is an average size for the helping hand tools. I found one at a retail store that was a little bigger with a little heavier base but also cost almost 100$ for a product that works virtually just as well.I don’t use it everyday, but when I do, it’s constantly being used and manipulated for hours at a time with no evidence of any problems. The elbow joints and little rotators have not had a single problem or become loosened, none of the threat stripped, nothing. The teeth line up on mine very well and the alligator clips are firm and open wide but aren’t difficult to open nor mar a printed circuit board (Sometimes I also put electrical tape between them just to be sure though). I’ve had it a few weeks and it’s worked amazingly well. I paid a little extra because I REALLY did NOT want the silly magnifying glass that some have and would gladly buy again and already have recommended this product to friends.Any mass produced item will have some that get through quality control but 90% of the time, when an item fails it seems to be a problem with the user not the product.I haven’t had it long enough to know whether it will continue to last through the years like the very expensive one my father has had, but for 10$ I don’t really care if it doesn’t either. It’s already lasted long enough and performed well enough as any “third hand” to have been well worth the money so I’ll order another one any issues arise as it gets older.

Solid little stand
This works well for your standard sized electrical wires that you would see in electronics and throughout the house. It has a heavy base and will keep upright when working with these types of wires. It has limitations though, such as it struggles with say and extension cord as it will tip it over. But again, with “normal” wires this works well and articulates to numerous positions.

Works well for small soldering jobs; clamp jaws are very sharp.
The base is not very heavy so larger circuit boards can cause the unit to tip. You need to clamp the base to the workbench or vise for these cases. The clamp jaws are very sharp and can damage wire insulation if you are trying to solder a wire splice. Use some poster board strips in the jaws to protect the wires. This unit is a good value and none of the drawbacks can’t be overcome with some forethought.

I don’t know how I’ve gotten along without these extra hands
These tools are the best! Although I don’t use them for soldering, I do use them with my art. I’ve used them for holding different items while I work on them, and also to hold an item while I’m sculpting. They make it so much easier to have these “extra hands.” They do seem quite sturdy, but I recommend using common sense when it comes to the amount of weight you want it to hold and the clips are sturdy, but I don’t recommend you be rough with them. But I believe if you take care of this item it should last a long time. It also is weighted at the bottom pretty good as well. When I first received the box I thought it would be small, but after opening it up I realized they just had it folded up and it was much larger than the box made me think at first. If you enjoy creating art I’m sure you could use this item. It also has one that comes with a magnifying glass that a family member purchased for me and I love using that one as well. This really is a great product for the price.

Perfect and Practical without Useless Frills
Three things make this Helping Hands great…simplicity, practicality, durability. It’s simple because it doesn’t have all the fancy (and often times useless) lights and other stuff that aren’t really necessary. Half the time, those things don’t work very well or they get in the way. This is practical in several ways. For example, the alligator clips are removable with thumbscrews. The clips are the kind that can be found at most hardware or home improvement stores. That’s not a bad thing. If these get torn up, or if you want to have a different kind with the same size ends that can fit in the sockets, it’s easily replaceable. Another example, is the the other thumbscrews allow it to be angled in just about every possible angle you could imagine. As far as durability, the base is heavy for it’s size. It is a heavy metal, unlike many of the cheap plastic ones that tip over when they are angled in certain positions. Even if it’s not heavy enough to hold down your piece, there’s enough edge on the base to place something to add more weight.Overall, this is what I think…- Very versatile- Interchangeable alligator clips- Heavy enough base- Well-balanced- All metal (no plastic parts)

Superior range of motion and strong tension-joints, but base is too light, making product top-heavy
Highly nuanced articulation with firm, tension-based joints; the clamps are formidable for their size and will reliably hold a large sheet of card stock without issue. The base, however, is a little too small, and (WAY) too light; unless your weight distribution is almost perfectly vertical, this thing is gonna topple. Don’t be fooled, the black base is not made of the material you’re probably assuming it is at a glance. Alternatively, if you intend on finding a permanent home for this tool, adhering it to your workbench would entirely nullify the stability problem.

Works for my needs, good price
I use this for making jewelry. Depending on your needs, this may be all you need. Once itâs in position, it holds well for multiple days. I will likely be buying another.

La herramienta que me hacÃa falta. Buen peso, buena calidad de los materiales, acabados razonables y con bastante flexibilidad. Muy recomendable para trabajos electrónicos.

Exactly what you see and quality is good!

I got two for stop motion and they are excellent. Heavy and well built and very good value. So, if your experimenting with stop motion and need to hold your models invest in these and you won’t regret it.

As long as you don’t give it something too heavy, it’s not a bad little helper. I used it to solder a bunch of cables together. Much better than having my kids help me… “Daddy, my fingers are burning… Daddy, the smell is making me dizzy… Daddy, I’m tired and hungry… Can’t I sit down?” Blah, blah, blah, pipe down and let me work! (kidding, my kids would never help me)The clips are pretty strong. I would maybe wrap a little electrical tape or something to prevent scratching, if that’s a concern.
