Wow. It really works
Ok, Iâve only done a few solder joints so limited experience but I am blown away. I actually didnât think this would work but after over 60 years soldering wires as an engineer and avid DIYer, I really wanted something truly portable. I was tired of struggling with extension cords on ladders for various projects and sadly disappointed with butane solutions. So, for the price, decided to give this a whorl. As has been noted in other reviews, this isnât for heavy duty work that requires serious wattage to heat up joints. No pencil soldering iron does that well. But for general small jobs this is amazing. Heats up very quickly to a temperature that readily makes a good joint. I havenât measured the actual temperature but it seems to compare very well with my bench top solder station. Iâll have to see how long it actually performs but, short term, Iâm sold.

Awful
The tip doesn’t get hot enough to melt some solders, especially lead-free ones. And when it is hot enough, it has enough thermal mass to just barely melt it and then it solidifies again. You’d have better results trying to solder with a candle.

Works
Portable and quick heating

Decent value
I needed to do one solder, so this definitely worked for my use case. The inconsistent heat and limited battery life would make this tricky to use as a daily driver. That said, USB C and battery powered makes it convenient and easy to use.

Very handy
Pretty nifty little unit. Very handy for small jobs and electronics soldering.

Works ok for soldering wires together; not great for guitar work
I got the soldering iron to change out pickups in one of my guitars and while it does get hot enough to solder wires together easily, it does not get hot enough to be able to solder wires to the ground points such as potentiometers or trems. Moreover, it gives a range of heat in the product description that it can run between, but there is no way to change the actual temperature of the soldering iron. So you’re actually getting a randomly variable soldering iron, but not the ability to actually change the temperature. I think that soldering wires together for work on my car, this will work. But any other purposes such as musical instruments, get something better.

It doesn’t just get hot enough, and there is no temperature control.
I’ve tried this thing with at least 4 different types of solder, and it is just not able to get the pad hot enough to actually bond solder (highest had 3.3% flux core). At best I can spend like 5x as long as a standard, wall-powered iron, and my solder beads up constantly because the affinity for the pad is not there without the temperature. So in my experience, you just end up wasting a bunch of solder because it makes those little solder balls that form when the solder bonds to itself more than the pad, and you either frantically mess around trying to squish the ball onto the pad (if you have the patience to melt the little solder nuggets), or you just let the little nugget fall off and pray you get a better start when you melt another piece.Just spend like $20 more bucks and buy an iron which can actually output some heat. I’ve used cordless irons that can get hot, its not impossible. You also can’t operate it while its charging, which could have increased the power output if implemented. The tip also has tons of wiggle room, so its a gamble which side the heating element has more contact with. 2 stars because I have managed to get something soldered with it, but it took a lot more patience, and if I had my wall-powered iron ( or likely any wall-powered iron ) I would have used that instead.

Works perfectly fine
Thought it was defective due to not turning on, but it actually did just had to press and hold for a bit to actually make it come on. Other than that it did itâs job. Love the product now I need something elseâs to break so I can solder it
