Very Nice Kit
Really pleased with this purchase. My old butane soldering iron died, I went looking for a replacement. Wow, nice upgrade. First, big tank for more time between trips to the butane can. ðð» The soldering iron function is about the same but the ability to convert to a good tool for heat shrink tubing is great. It takes time to let things cool and swap parts (or, be an idiot like me and use tweezers and small needle nose pliers to swap them hot ð¤) but it lets you heat shrink tubing over your solder joint(s) without a heat gun/ a place to plug in a heat gun. The solder is seems to be good quality, good âflowâ and smooth, shiny joints. The whole kit is nice, post my first project it went into my tool box just as it was shipped except for a tinned (easy to tin) soldering tip, slightly dirty sponge and a tank of butane. Even the tiny sponge was useful for tip cleaning. Not the cheapest option but a very good deal in my opinion. One caveat, all that is assuming the work isnât delicate enough to require fine temperature control. Like any butane tool the heat adjacent is gross, not fine. Worked great for 18 AWG copper, plenty of heat to quickly get the wire hot enough for a pretty join. I think it would be fine for most stuff amateurs use every day, maybe less so if youâre working with 36 AWG, a PWB or any really delicate work.

Excellent quality at a budget price.
The overall build quality, design, and ergonomics of this gun is top notch this thing punches well above it’s price point. I feel I’m going to get many, many years out of this thing. I’ll be sure to definitely update if anything malfunctions.PROs-It’s fuel efficient-Quite ergonomic-The tip heats up to soldering temp on par with high end stations-The build quality and fit n finish is excellent-Versatility is excellent with this, you can solder a wire then heat shrink in one shot no tip changes, you use the tips exhaust. Also the other tips are good for a multitude of things.CONs-A mild learning curve, barely anything honestly-The cases hings are stiff but don’t feel flimsy-It doesn’t cook and clean up around the house-You have to be mindful of the tip exhaust in tight areas, you could accidentally melt something.TIPs-Use high quality butane 7x or higher-If your mesh in the tips gets clogged or too dirty from poor quality butane you will have sputtering issues.(IMPORTANT: This method makes a lot of smoke do it OUTSIDE)You can clean it with injector cleaner and qtips. Put a few drops on the mesh and let sit for 10 or so minutes, rub with the qtip to clean and remove excess solvent, use the torch option on the solder gun and burn away the solvent on the mesh, then put the tip on the soldering gun run for 10-20 minutes on low, if it doesn’t ignite use the torch again and burn more off. If it continues to sputter after all of the solvent is burnt away it means 1 of 3 things. The mesh is still dirty, your butane is not clean enough, or you have it turned up too high.

portable and heats up quickly
works great and its not bulky. Just make sure you don’t use the cheap butane when filling it.

Everything I thought it would be.
I really liked the start-up procedure for the iron. It is simple and fast, almost flawless in operation. I use the iron in building plastic model kits, and in jewelry repair where I use it to melt silver solder, An added plus is the fact that it is made in Taiwan, not China.

Never Gets Hot Enough
I purchased this product to do some thicker-gauge landscape wiring in my yard, and unfortunately it was a big disappointment. If you solder a join properly (strip, slide on and back heat shrink plastic, twist ends together, and apply heat source with the iron under the join) it will never get the exposed wires hot enough to melt and flow solder from the top. The big downside however is the incredible heat coming out of the vented holes under the tip. I got an inch away from my fingers and burned them, then I had to place the iron on a box for a second while I was moving the connection. It immediately caught the box on fire even though I had the little “kickstand” deployed. About the only think this is good for is applying heat to the plastic sleve to shrink it.

This was great until
I used this to solder stainless steel costume jewelry and it worked so well until it didnât. The ignition quit igniting the flame so I had to hand light it with a lighter. Then the plastic around the nozzle started to deform, and finally it would eat a can of butane so quick. Just ended up buying a real two gas torch.
