Fun to build, fun to watch!
My 11-year-old daughter and I built this across the course of two evenings, putting about two hours total into it. She did all the soldering and assembly, and I helped with a second set of hands and “advice” as needed. It’s all through-hole assembly, so only standard tools and a pencil soldering iron are needed. Be sure your iron is in the 20-30 watt range, and not one of those 50W beasts. You’ll cook the parts with one of those. The single sheet of directions came with a QR code that pulled up a nice web page with excellent instructions and photos to guide you the whole way.The plexiglass stand and all hardware is of good quality and there were no problems putting it together. We did find one issue with the instructions. The photo with the magnetic “pendulum” part shows the part upside-down. Our assembled project didn’t work when we finished it, so we flipped that magnet over, and it sprung to life. Easy fix, so if yours doesn’t work, flip the magnet over!All-in-all, we had fun building it, got to call time at the work bench “family time,” and my daughter has it proudly displayed and in action on her computer desk. What more could I want?

Bad design, wrong parts, bad instructions, need I say more?
The vertical pendulum holder isn’t secure and wobbles around, bad design. The bottom standoffs were of different lengths, should be all the same. Order of assembly and assembly instructions bad, doesn’t tell you maximum height of soldered components, it does make a difference. Hall Effect Sensor should have come pre-soldered with the thin white wires already on them ready to be placed through the vertical pendulum holder.Update: The problem with this kit as I saw it was the small diameter and short length of the white wires attaching the Hall sensor to the PWB. This would interfere with the placement of the Hall sensor over the wire coil. The one longer standoff leg at the bottom made the kit stand at an angle. So I:1. Resoldered the Hall sensor to larger diameter wires and didn’t route it through the vertical pendulum holder. This would allow placement of the Hall sensor anywhere over the coil.2. Used hot glue to robustly attach the vertical pendulum holder to the base.3. Removed the longer base leg and propped the whole kit up with a padlock so it would be level.Result: I still couldn’t get the kit to work. The LED was flashing when the pendulum traversed over the coil so I knew the Hall sensor was turning power on and off to the coil.Bottom line: the kit seller offered me my money back, so they are nice guys concerned with the performance of their kit. For that they got one star back.

Poor Structural design, cheaply done.
The acrylic piece that stands up fastens together in a cheap half hazard way. The piece broke and I spent a few hours fashioning a tin piece to hold the upright in place. Unfortunately the magnet was attracted to the tin so it wouldnât work. The acrylic piece must have been cracked. If I cracked it I donât know how. Its flimsy and prone to trouble. If it were made better it would have been a fun project.

Good challenge and improves fine tuning skills
The project assembled well and was not all that difficult. Simple radial components to solder for beginners and intermediate skills. The challenge was getting the hall effect switch too center over the metal electromagnet. Other than that, it worked when aligned well and lights up.

little wobbly but fun to build
Nice starter kit for beginners. The top of the pendulum is a little wobbly but a good project to build with a kiddo.

Not much fun
I don’t know if it’s the hall sensor or poor instructions or both. It just won’t keep swinging.

Mixed Feelings on Soldering Project DIY Kit
The Soldering Project DIY Kit I acquired recently is a bit of a mixed bag. On the positive side, the kit contains all the components as advertised, which is reassuring. The price point is also reasonable, aligning well with the contents provided. However, the kit falls short in two significant areas: instructions and packaging. The instructions provided are far from satisfactory, lacking clarity and detail, which can be quite frustrating for beginners trying to navigate their first soldering project. This oversight could lead to confusion and potential mistakes that could have been easily avoided with better guidance. Moreover, the packaging was disappointing. It appears little thought was given to the unboxing experience and the protection of the components during transit. The poor packaging could lead to damaged parts and does not reflect the quality one would expect from a DIY kit.

Awesome kit
could not get this thing to work then i switched the magnet around with the flat part to the bottom and now it works great.
