Excellent soldering iron
10/10This is an excellent soldering iron for the price. Yes, it must be plugged in for it to work, however unlike the base Pinecil, this actually includes an outlet brick so it’s pretty much ready to go right out of the box. I don’t have my Pinecil on hand (lended it to someone for a project) so I can’t compare it directly, though it does feel slightly larger and takes slightly longer to heat. Still, it’s very compact relative to other irons, and the price is where it needs to be to be competitive with the Pinecil and other compact irons, given that you also have to include the cost of a brick powerful enough to drive the system (which can be surprisingly expensive if you don’t already have one, since it won’t charge correctly if you don’t have one that can charge at it’s specific wattage).I’ve used a TS101 in the past, however I wasn’t a fan of it as the charging port on mine was not tight enough to fully secure the power cord when in usage, so I constantly had to deal with it coming out. Not sure if it was just the piece I received or if it’s a common problem with that model, but still, it put me off of ever using one or recommending it. This is very similar to that, however it actually works, and doesn’t require a massive and hot laptop style brick charger like the TS101. So I highly recommend this, especially when it comes in at nearly the same price as the TS101, with a far better build quality and display. It just feels much more significant in pretty much every regard.

My new favorite soldering iron!
I used to be in love with my TS101 portable digital soldering iron, until I got this. This thing is nice! I seen another reviewer say that this was on the level of something Apple would make, well I don’t care much for Apple but I definitely would say it’s on the level of something Samsung would make. It comes with awesome little carrying case and an assortment of soldering tips. A very nice 100 watt type c power brick and a very beefy USB-C to USBC cord. But for me the best accessory they included was the USBC adapter that allowed me to connect my adapter I already owned from my TS101 so I can use drone batteries to power it in the field. Keep in mind that even though I posted a picture hooked up to a phantom battery. The battery does not come with this kit nor does the harness with the yellow plug that connects over to the pin harness adapter they included. But you can buy them on Amazon like crazy they’re cheap. That truly turns this setup into a really convenient portable soldering kit. It can handle a variety of input voltages so you’re not stuck using one power source. The digital settings are easy enough to figure out if you’ve ever used a digital soldering iron before you won’t have an issue. It holds temp very well and gets up to temperature even off my drone batteries fast enough it’s not a bother for me. Connected to their power sources even faster. I definitely prefer the feel of this unit in my hand over the TS101 I’ve been using. I feel a lot steadier with the better grip. I know that this is probably a bit pricey for a lot of people for a soldering iron, but this is not meant for your average Joe just getting into soldering. This is really a tool meant for professionals to use in the field on the go. And for that in my opinion it’s worth every penny and more. Highly recommended.

Heats up quick, nice metal cap to protect the tip when in storage.
The tip on this comes up to temperature very quickly, and seems steady once it is at temp.It also maintains the temp when heating up a joint. The cap is nice, it is a 1/4 turn to unlock type, and it does a good job of protecting the tip and also protecting the case from the hot tip if you put it away too fast. This style of iron with the small C210 style tip does have a bit of trouble with transferring enough heat to a larger joint sometimes, the temp of the core of the tip stays at the set point, but the point of the tip is too small to transfer enough heat to a larger joint to melt the solder. This problem is the same for all soldering irons that use this size of tip. This kit comes with a very nice 100 Watt USB powers supply. The USB-C cable is also very nice, it is quite soft and flexible, but is a bit on the thick side at almost 1/4 inch in diameter. The Iron works with other USB-C cables without issues.I played with the settings, and found them fairly easy to use. The OK button is used to enter the setting to be changed, and then it is also used to back out of that setting by using a long press. The settings menus were fairly intuitive and easy to navigate.I set the iron to run on 12 Volts instead of the default 20 Volt setting and found that it would reset when you tried to turn it on. I was able to clear this problem by setting the max power to 50%.The default max power is 65%.Overall this is a nice little soldering iron, it comes with a nice protective cap and a case to store it in while it is in your tool case. There is no room in the case for the USB power block.

Nice kit
I’ve become quite fond of the usb powered irons, as they’re just so convenient to pop out and use. The build of this one is nice and solid, and I like the layout as the grip is nice and close to the tip making it easy to control. The power brick and cable included are both seemingly high quality and it comes with what I would consider a nice range of precision tips.My only real complaint is that while it does come with a case, it’s not nearly big enough for the power brick and cable to fit, so something will have to be brought separately, though not a huge deal because I carry spare bricks with me anyways.Overall a great little piece of kit, and would make a nice first soldering kit.
