LOTS OF FUN TO BUILD!
This was LOADS of fun! So glad I got it. This will teach you a lot about soldering and electronics! Things like how to find out where the + side of a LED is or + side of a capacitor. Your going to be doing Through-Hole Components soldering. With some surface mount soldering! This was about 3 hrs of work for me. Had so much fun. That I did not take a brake for the full 3 hrs of work. Note there are some parts that will be extra components. So be ready for that. There are some REALY small stuff in the bag. Open it in a WELL lighted space. Take your time and Have fun!!

Good kit to practice your soldering skills
I saw this FM radio kit on Amazon and wanted to build something to improve my soldering skills so I decided to build this kit.It comes with a one page instruction manual with a QR code that links to very good, step by step instructions.I think this is a beginner to intermediate project. The first step was the most difficult, you have to solder a small SMD device to the circuit board, it is fairly small and a beginner may need a little help.After the first step, the instructions guide you through the rest of the assembly with good pictures of the components and cautions about watching for correct polarity. A beginner will be able to follow and complete the steps.It comes with a nice clear plexiglass case. I had a little bit of trouble removing the protective paper covering but found if I heated the plexiglass with a hair dryer, the paper peeled off easily. Also make sure to pay attention to which size screws are used in the cover for the speaker and circuit board, they are different lengths.I also found it easier to align the speaker mounting holes with stand offs if I used a toothpick to align one hole and then put one screw into another hole that is now aligned up with the spacer.When you are done, youâll have a nice FM radio with blinking lights that follow the volume…the louder the volume, the more lights turn on. It is also very good soldering practice.

Microscopic soldering impossible without professional equipment
I bought this for my 15-year old son. He meticulously followed the directions accessible from the QR code, but was naturally stuck with the tiny IC (Integrated Circuit), whose pins are too close together for a non-micro hobby kit. This requires magnifying glass, mounting equipment, and micro-soldering equipment. We attempted to press down the IC into the circuit board, and hold it on with some tape, as soldering without shorting was impossible. Then plugged into power, and of course, the equipment did not work.

The darn capacitor is too tall!!!
The radio does work after I soldered all the components. The large black & grey capacitor under the LCD display chip is too big. It would NOT allow the LCD display to sit flat! Ugh. So the plexiglass sides and top are useless. Other than that it was good practice for me on the soldering front. The designer(s) of the kit need to pay attention to fitment and interference of the various electronic components. So it will only get 4 stars from me.

Such a fun project! Really easy to put together and the radio worked great. Perfect for soldering practice, and good value for the price.

Fun little project
I haven’t soldered electronics in 20 years, but this little project was easy to pick up and run with. It took me about 2 hours to get together. I would recommend this to anyone just learning, or wanting an easy project to do in an afternoon.

Fun starter kit
My 10 year old had no difficulty soldering this. I soldered the SMT part but he did all the rest. This brand has other radio kits that cost a few dollars more and I think those would be better.
