Good kit for beginners
Just what I wanted – something that walks you through basic soldering. Soldering iron is ok I have feeling that if I to continue with soldering I would outgrow it pretty fast and would look for something better. But works fine for occasional projects. Replacement soldering tip is hard to find, but possible. I did not have need to change it yet so maybe it is non issue. Comes with 5 pages booklet, with basic instructions, so don’t expect detailed manual with best practices and all. Overall worth $$ I think.

Decent beginners kit
Easy to follow instructions to teach yourself how to solder. Iron its self works well, it’s evident it’s a beginners model. My primary use for it is repairs to video game cartridges, works great for the minor amount of time I have to use it

Great starter kit
I bought this for my 11 year old grandson and he built the circuit board almost by himself. The directions are relatively easy to follow and now he wants to fix everything in the house that needs a solder!

This is excellent!
I had a great time with this kit teaching my grandson how to solder. He was delighted to find that his hands were steadier than mine, and that his project worked the first time. We had no problems with the foil lifting from the board that others mention. Likely that problem is technique-related.Unless there is a source for replacement tips, the iron itself may not be a lifetime item. The kit comes packed with one spare tip, and the tip’s plating seems to only be good for a few hours of use.

Good kit except for the iron…
The kit is good for learning how to solder…. Just not with the iron included. It is a piece of junk. Also, the solder included, which is lead free, isn’t very good either. I built the kit using another soldering iron and 60/40 lead solder. I really liked the thought of having a decent adjustable iron and stand, but am unhappy with this one.

It worked. My wife was able to repair an electronic toy right away. Sure it was horrible and smelly, but that is what solder is, take it or leave it.

This is the first time I bought something from Elenco brand, I must say the Iron works fairly decent. Although the tips need to be a bit modified to do the finer electronics construction. The over all quality is good, above average. The heating time isn’t too long say 7/8 minutes for fully operational. the only Complaint I have is that, the power wire to the Iron could have been placed in a better location, and not on to a side. In short, if you aren’t looking to spend much money on an Iron and wanna brush up the skills on soldering, this is the kit to go for.

I realy liked it.It’s really a good kit, the soldering iron work fine and the project is perfect for a first electronic project.The only negative side is the instruction, they are correct to learn soldering but not to learn electronic. It’s ok since this is the purpose of the kit (soldering) and there are a lot of book dedicated for electronic but i would like some basic explanations about the circuit.Highly recommanded for starter, electronic is an awesome hobby !Thanks.

I bought this to try and learn soldering and it was perfect. The instructions were very clear and helpful, and the practice section of the board was very useful for figuring things out before actually soldering components. One comment is to make sure that when you solder the kit to solder both jumper wires as i forgot one and spent awhile trying to figure out why the circuit wasn’t working (if you have an error where the speaker and one LED are both constantly on then this may be your issue)

I received this kit and everything worked out of the box. The soldering iron seems decent for the price and I have used it a few times since putting the little project together. As someone who is just starting to get into the hobby of building electronics this kit was well worth it to learn how to solder (I would recommend also watching some youtube videos).All in all, definitely worth it for someone who is just getting into electronics.P.S. I never tried using the lead free solder that came with the kit, I also wouldn’t recommend getting the solder that amazon suggests others buy with this kit as it’s a little thick for the job. Find yourself some 63/37 1mm solder instead.
