Very useful and even plays cords!
This is an easy kit to build and you end up with far more than a toy! You can truly play real music on it! You have keys for rhythm, to record what you have played, and you can even use multiple keys, (cords). So it is definitely worth the money. As it comes, the instructions are simple and as long as you can solder reasonably ok, this will come out great! I’ve built many of this companies kits and they have all worked flawlessly. With the exception of the many buttons to solder, there are not many other components and the surface mount ICs are already done for you. I highly recommend this kit for anyone that would like music and to build an easy kit. Very good value for the money!

Fun soldering iron project for kids
Instructions were excellent for assembly. Detailed photos and notes were all on target and the build went really well with no issues or missing parts. Forceps were useful for picking the pieces from the package. Order of assembly was well thought out (short stuff first, then taller parts). The instructions for what all those buttons do were very brief and left much to be discovered. The main IC/brains of this is a “Nyquest” NY7, and the firmware seems to include all the tunes and functionality from the SDK for the IC.I gave this five stars for every category except the instructions. It’s a minor gripe, as figuring out the “theory of the machine” ends up being a second project in itself…Recording Rhythm:There is a basic rhythm sequencer (“SWITCH” SW16 key accesses a second layer of rhythm instruments on SW17-SW20). You can record rhythm/drum loops by pressing “PROGRAM” SW21, then the sequence of hits (using SWITCH to access the second set of drums), up to 36 hits or so. This will play in a loop when you press “REPLAY” SW30, and you can play a melody concurrently on the white keys.Recording Melody:Press “RECORD” SW21, sequence of melody on the white keys, then “REPLAY” SW30 to hear it back. I have not figured out how to record both rhythm and melody concurrently, but probably it could be done. One Key/One Note (OK/ON)This a series of many tunes that play one note per white keypress (any white key will do). Press the “OK/ON” SW29 one or more times, and select the tune by pressing one of the white keys. There are several layers of tunes (e.g. single press of SW29 yields one tune for SW1, and different tune if SW29 is pressed twice, three times, etc.)Flats/SharpsHave not figured out if the black keys can be used as flats/sharps, but would guess it might be possible. Who knows.

Fun little kit with some potential issues.
Picked this up for some soldering practice after doing a really basic circuit and wanting to try something a bit more involved. This is a great kit for learning solely due to the number of connections you need to make, and the variety of connection types, ranging from direct soldering to tinning and applying the speaker wire, both of which are essential skills to have for soldering. The final product is surprisingly capable as a little music device, I was pretty impressed by the range of sounds and functionality packed into this little piano! Had to dock one star for my unit in particular, as the board seems to have a defect that causes one of the piano keys to trigger multiple notes at once. Doesn’t appear to be a result of a connection on my end, and the other kits I’ve seen put together of this particular piano didn’t have that issue, so my guess is it’s a manufacturing error with the board itself. But this is still a great little kit! Cheap, fun, and educational.

Very good board for beginners, and you get a fun toy when you’re done
The PCB is really good quality. The pins are far enough apart that people who are new to soldering won’t have too much trouble avoiding solder bridges. The board is good quality; we didn’t have any problem with solder points becoming unattached, burning, or wires in the board lifting. There are a lot of solder joints to make, so it’s very good practice for anyone who is just beginning or looking to get in some more practice and learning. The instructions are okay, and you can email the manufacturer to get a larger PDF set of instructions, music for a couple songs, and a larger schematic diagram. My daughter enjoyed making the project, loves the piano/synthesizer toy, and she won Grand Champion at the county 4-H fair in electric with it.The company has been very good to communicate with on any issues (we requested the PDF manual and some of the specs on the components in case we wanted to replace anything sometime down the road).Great project, great company.I’m going to see what other projects they make that she could do next year for the fair.

A lot of work building this kit and then it doesn’t work and no way to contact seller.
The kit comes with nice instructions and would be a great kit if it actually worked when the kit was built. After building this kit the result was distorted sound with static and popping. And that is on the rare occasions that the piano actually makes any sounds at all. Checked all components and solder joints to no avail. Tried a different speaker and same results. Sounds like others have had this same defect with theirs. The two IC on the board come pre-soldered so there is actually minimal parts to solder on that would affect function. Most of the soldering is the buttons.I tried to contact the seller but the Amazon “seller messaging assistant” is worthless and does not have any options to select for a defective (not working) product and thus no way to actually contact the seller. Amazon is so worthless these days. Just let me write to the seller for peat’s sake.

Almost Perfect
This is the perfect kit for soldering practice. Directions were easy to follow. The finished product works well and will have lasting use. The only issue is the A and B keys are labeled incorrectly.
