Great for guitar wiring
My favorite thang is it works with my existing Ryobi batteries. Works great! Highly recommended!

I am terrible at soldering, but this makes me a little better
You donât need a third hand to solder with this. It holds and feeds the solder for you. Like I said, itâs not my forte, but I am better with this than a regular soldering iron. This is a review from an able tool user, just not a terrific solderer. It shows the temperature and you can adjust the temperature easily. I just wish I was better at it (not this tools fault).

Replace my trusty corded soldering iron.
I had my old corded soldering iron for probably decades. if you own dewalt 20V tools and battery this is definitely worth it. I have an outdoor car speaker replacement where it is very far from a wall socket so I started looking for a cordless and found this. It even comes with a spool of solder any multiple tips. The instructions aren’t great but easy to figure out.

Update
Died after a few months of infrequent use. Not worth it after all. Display flashes temp of 350F for a split second then E-1 permanently. Will not heat anymore. Transistorized so nothing repairable inside. No means of contacting seller.

Finally, an inexpensive portable iron using main stream batteries! Ryobi!
This soldering iron has the same flaws as most other “Inexpensive” irons: brittle heating element(s). I don’t expect it to last very long but the elements are really cheap and easy to change out… so no harm no foul.Other than that, it is very handy! I Love, love love the fact that it takes COMMON batteries! I have a metric craptonne of ryobi ONE+ batteries.. and so this fit the bill perfectly. It works fine and it’s cheap.Critical observations (not necessarily negative but specific):- it is a bit on the bulky side. Given the gun layout, some soldering jobs are better and some are worse. Heating elements are huge energy suckers, there is no faking heat, so … I find myself putting larger batteries on this, just like with the ryobi glue gun. This further bulks up the gun.. so be aware of that.- the solder feed seems like a great idea but… Its not great; I find myself feeding solder manually because of the need for more precision.- the temp settings are under a COVER PLATE. This is silly. Also, it’s on THE WRONG SIDE. Most humans are right handed.. and when holding this in my right hand I cannot see the temp setting because it’s on the opposite side of the gun. If you’re a Lefty then get this one; it was built for YOU! :-)All in all, its a bargain for what you get. If the heating element lasts ~1yr or so then I will update this review and bump my rating to 4 stars.

Works just as it should.
Arrived in perfect condition. The gun heats up fast. The digital temperature is nice. The solder feed is easy to use.

I bought this tool for one specific purpose; repairing connections in the seasonal lights that I had strung a few years ago down from the top of the twin-trunk, 50-foot spruce tree in our front yard. I donned my climbing harness, and attached the handle of the iron to a tool lanyard for safety.Halfway up the tree, the soldering iron worked perfectly! Fitted with one of my DeWalt 20V batteries, , the tool was light, well-balanced, and easy and intuitive to use. Perfect for one-handed work! The iron also survived an accidental fall to our paved driveway from a retaining wall about five feet high. Although the battery did detach itself, there was no damage to either the tool or the battery. If there is one thing I would improve, I would make a larger and more substantial attachment point for a tool lanyard; the one at the base of the handle does not have a large enough opening. Otherwise, I am impressed and satisfied!
