Fun kit
I really enjoyed building this kit. My favorite part was the 4-pin connectors that connect the candles to the base. Both the candles and the base have both through-hole *and* surface mount pieces, which must be attached in such a way that everything will line up. For whatever reason, I just happened to enjoy that particular part of the kit. Other than the surface mount connectors for the candles, everything else is 100% through-hole soldering and quite easy. As with many of these kits, you will also need to attach a couple of PCB legs to the PCB base using large blobs of solder to bridge solder pads. You might find the 4-pin LEDs a little challenging to solder if you don’t have fine-gauge solder (I used .6mm because it’s the smallest I had on hand) and a fine tip for your soldering iron, as the PCB holes for these LEDs are very close together. I had to switch to my fine-point C210 conical tip for these. Just something to be aware of. Using plenty of flux will help you avoid solder bridges. It’s also a good idea to have some desoldering wick on hand, just in case you apply too much. For whatever reason, my kit included some 2-pin LEDs that are not needed to build the kit (the candle LEDs are all 4-pin). I will never complain about extra parts, as they will eventually be used in something, but I thought this was a bit weird and funny.I wholeheartedly recommend this kit to help you improve your soldering skills.

Pretty looking
Good soldering practice. Most of it’s pretty easy to solder.Only works with a USB A to C cable because they used the wrong connector. The LEDs have solder pads that are too small, so they are hard to solder. The rest of the solder pads are easy to solder.

So cute, a fun project that teaches useful skills in an enjoyable way!
This is such a great idea and the set is absolutely adorable! My teen is enjoying this project as she makes something that she is excited to set up in her room. This is a great kit, everything is included (you do need a soldering iron, solder, flux…but all of the components are included) and the instructions are thorough. The candles are adorable, it’s just plain fun. The result of doing the work is an enjoyable decoration which definitely rewards a young learner. This will require a lot of soldering, it will take patience, and it will give plenty of time for improving and perfecting soldering skills. There are quite a few pieces. The project is thoughtful, well planned, and cleverly entertaining. I will recommend this project to everyone I know who is teaching a child (or wants to practice their own skills) to solder.

Fun little learn to solder project.
I am still learning how to solder. This is my 4th little kit, and I have a lot of fun doing these. This one makes a kind of candelabra, you can change the lights with a little remote.. There are five LED “candles” and a white stand. The stand doubles as the circuit board. I had an issue at the beginning, one of the resistors was labeled “4” but I thought it said “1” so that is on me.. I had to remove that resistor, which is another skill I have yet to master. While I was learning to remove solder, I compounded the mistake.. That is totally on me… Live and learn. I am a little more than half way through.. As I said, it has been fun. There are a few components that require surface mount soldering, there are a bunch that have conventional pins. If you want a project that is one step past simple, this is it. I recommend using a magnifying light to check on your work, I am old, and my eyes are just not that sharp. Go for it. I have really enjoyed this kit.

Electric candelabra
This project, although pretty straight forward to build does present some tricky aspects. The individual candles can be plugged or unplugged and the connectors present both through the hole and surface mount soldering. I found that using masking tape to hold these pieces in place for surface soldering worked very well. See one of the photos above for an example.. Actually, I use masking tape a lot when making these soldering kits on many of the component to assure a proper fit. The included instructions did not do a great job of illustrating how these connectors worked so I had to study them a bit before I felt confident they were correct. This one was fun to build and uses a remote to allow changing the color of the candles and some different effects as well.

Amazing!
I’ve had quite a few items break recently where I’ve needed to solder something together to get it back to working again and have struggled trying to do it properly. This kit has taught me a lot about soldering and how to better do it. Highly recommend!
