Fun soldering project for Christmas
This is a fun little soldering kit for Christmas. They are easy to put together but they didnât come with instructions. I found the instructions on line from a different company. If you know your color codes on resistors or have a multimeter to measure their resistance you should be good. And make sure you have the polarity correct on the LEDs. I also found the battery compartment was a bit tight and cracked when putting in batteries. To prevent this put the 2 outer batteries in first then the middle one and when taking them out pull the middle one first. But when you are finished they are really cool. The speed ramps up and down while cycling through colors. Everyone that sees it wants one. I have soldered at least 30 of these for friends and family.

Likes: It’s a simple kit to build. The instructions are good. Works like I wanted it to.Dislikes: None.If you test the LED’s at a constant voltage they will be red. Don’t be fooled by that. In service the LED’s do in fact cycle through RGB.

Great for most kids
Iâve purchased and helped about a dozen kids build these Christmas trees over the years. Once they are built, they work well and the twinkling leds are a real hit. It really helps if you know a bit about circuits and it really helps if youâve got an example tree built that kids can look at and duplicate. Instructions are sparse. The typical things to look out for:The LEDs have a short and long leg. You need to put these in the right way or they wonât light. Transistors and capacitors also need to go in the right way. You really need to watch kids use of the soldering iron so they donât burn themselves. Iâve had one get slightly burned even with careful instructions so watch them or let them stuff the board and you do the soldering.

Nice if you like just Red lights.
Assembly was fun and semi-easy. Have built 3 so far and the red lights are dominant over all others. Some colors you never really even see. I’d request a refund but bought this 5 pack 6 months ago and just now got around to starting to assemble them. And it wasn’t the way I assembled them as I have done countless others.

All trees worked
Didnât know what to expect since these usually are $16 a piece but I gave it a shot and itâs worth it. All 5 trees light up nicely. I tested them with batteries and DC. Some reviews state that it is not beginner friendly and I disagree, it is straight forward and they even have a downloadable PDF to look at but I guess some people struggle to look lol. Overall really happy.

I gave this three stars for the three trees that worked correctly. Two of the kits had problems with the CTR-30B circuit board. On one, the Q3 circuit did not work, and the other the Q1 circuit did not work. I replaced the transistor and capacitor on the Q3 circuit, but the six lights associated with that circuit still did not light. I assume there is a problem with the printed circuit. I purchased these kits last January so I could make the trees for Christmas this year, but didn’t start work on them until now. I guess I should have tested them out right away. It’s too late to return them now.

Nicely done kits. Easy to assemble for experienced solderers. May be challenging for someone who has never soldered before.if buying as a gift, be sure the recipient also has a soldering iron and solder to complete.

Unfortunate lapse in component picking & packing
I’ve ordered these in quantity before, and all has been fine.Sadly, I have to remove some stars this time.With this order of a 5-pack, whoever picked components to kit up goofed.Within each of the five kits:Six 150ohm resistors were included instead of six 1Kohm,andOne 470ohm resistor was included instead of one 220ohm.In my case, I have adequate stock of the correct resistors(and the incorrect ones will go into my stock)so no need for me to return them.Do double check your kits for correct components when received.
