Nice Alternative
This soldering aid is nice to have as an option. Most of my soldering is not splicing wire to wire. When it is, they often aren’t both long enough ir stick out far enough to make this tool useful. However, for the tasks this was designed to perform, it is great.I think the most awesome thing is that the wire isn’t being pinched between the teeth of a clamp. I have uglied up my fair share of 20+ ga wire with steel clamps. I actually wish this tool were a bit more flexible in its functionality. It does give me the idea of silicone tipped clamps on the end of articulating arms. I have used shrink tube over the steel clamps to limited and inconsistent effect. But…Anyhow, this is a good tool. Though it only intermittently serves my purposes, I am glad to have it for when it can.

Holds wires really well
I have a “third hand” desktop accessory, but it always requires a bunch of adjustments, particularly difficult if the wires I’m working with are at table level, or are heavier wires. This works great, and the different-sized grooves ensure that there is always the correct spacing needed. Doesn’t slip on the workbench!
