Great Project For A Novice Or Intermediate
This is not for a beginner unless they’re working with someone with more experience. As of this review, I couldn’t find any videos online showing how to build this. The manufacturer provides a link to instructions online, but unless you already have a basic understanding, they will be of little use to you.With that said, this was an amazing project that really challenged me. The electronic aspect wasn’t really the challenge, sculpting the spherical shape is what was so difficult. You will solder 128 separate multi-colored LEDs together to make this. Forming the rings/rows isn’t bad. But, stacking those 8 rings? There were many times I had to hold the solder iron in one hand, hold the pieces in the other hand, and hold the solder in my mouth. Yup. I did that. You shouldn’t! Now, if you’re the type who owns all the tools to do this correctly, and I assume that’s possible, then you’re definitely not a beginner, either. I consider myself a novice. This is my 5th project so far.I made the 4 x 4 x 4 LED cube before this. I might suggest you do the same. If you find that difficult, this may drive you nuts. However, I don’t chose hobbies that are not a challenge, so this was just the right project for me at this time.The light show is amazing! I thought the cube was good. But, this is stellar in comparison! I’ve also uploaded a video showing it finished.

Great kit and outcome, if you have the patience.
The kit is just a bag of parts. You need to download the PDF instructions. But with patience, and time, and some soldering skills, the results are nice. What’s also nice is the kit comes with a good amount of extra LEDs. The instructions call for 8 layers, but there are 11 channels, so you could make 11 layers. I made a 9 layer kit.
