Easy to use
This kit is super fun and well built. Iâve done 1/3 bugs so far and love it, they look great. I highly recommend this kit to anyone looking for something like this. The steps are clear and outlined well, I had no issues following them while building.

Easy to put together but several LED “duds”
Used these for a kids life-skills camp where we taught soldering. The price on these is good and they are easy to put together for kids 8-12 years old. Two problems. 1) Some of the LEDs were duds and would not light up. Dissapointing. 2) The lights are activated by darkness (putting finger over sensor) but that means they are lit up all night long so the battery goes bad quickly. Still, I would use them again for this type of purpose.

Nice, simple and quick projects
This is a great project that isn’t time consuming or complicated. My son is learning to solder and some of the projects are either too complicated or time consuming at this stage for him. These can be finished quickly and get a sense of accomplishment when they light up. Each on lights up in a different color and they are nice and bright.

great entery level kit
bought a total of large number of these (and the black ones as well) Taught a bunch of scouts soldering (electronics mb). this was the most cost effective kit I could find that did something to prove the did the project correctly. Best part was it came with a battery.

Not for absolute beginners soldering training, but good for intermediate
These kits are not actually for absolute beginner soldering training. They are intermediate at least, because the circuit board lands are extremely small (8 mil) and narrow (2 mil), and the resister leads are very thin (2 mil), making them poor at heat transfer. You need extra fine (0.3 mm) 63/37 tin/lead rosin core solder, and an 800 degree F 80W soldering iron. 1.0 mm solder simply will not melt from the limited heat transferred in the thin resistor leads. I advise against lead-free solder, which has even higher heat transfer requirements. The supplied pictorial instructions, while useful in assembling the board, donât provide any guidance on the soldering equipment or what solder to use. Also, I recommend using a âthird handâ soldering assistant jig with magnifying glass, widely available for $10. The magnifying glass is essential for inspecting the solder joints on the teeny circuit board lans. The typical hobbyistâs 40w irons will not get hot enough for the very thin wire work. I recommend one of the $30 80W temperature-controlled iron kits, with digital LED temperature display, widely available on Amazon. Also my kit has one design flaw that I had to work around: The leads on the supplied battery holder were not long enough to reach through the board when the battery holder is sitting on top of soldered connections. I had to extend the leads by soldering on additional length on the plus and minus terminals (see pic). For someone just beginning soldering, I recommend a kit that has larger, standard 8 mil component leads and 20 mil dia. lands having a 5 mil width. When someone was proficient at soldering joints for those larger feature sizes they will have the patience and understanding to solder the small joints in this kit.Once completed, the boards are fun to play with. The LED eyes can vary in brightness, depending on how much light is limited at the sensor. In absolute darkness, the LEDs are fully on, and I canât believe the batteries will last very long that way. It would be nice if the design used intermittent flashing to reduce the duty cycle on the LEDs, which would extend battery life beyond one day. The addition of a single transistor and capacitor would make that feasible. Perhaps a second edition of this board could be offered.

Easy for kids
My 7 year old had no trouble with the kits. He had so much fun. He wants to buy more! My 4 year old liked watching Dad and instructing. (No way do we trust him to do it himself yet ð)
