How did we get our start?
Learn to Solder Kits began through volunteer work in 2015. We were doing outreach to HS girls through the Society of Women Engineers and after using other kits for a workshop that fell apart and led to a lot of frustration, we decided to design our own.
What makes our products unique?
All of our kits are simple enough to be done successfully in a half-hour to an-hour workshop. They use high temp boards in order to hold up well to beginners. And all of our kits are open source and designed and assembled in California.
INTERACTIVE RGB LED KIT – Learn to solder in a unique, engaging, fun, and achievable way! The Hue Learn to Solder practice kit is our second solder project kit designed for beginners but offers more of a challenge than the Blink Kit. It features one large RGB LED light and three small dials. As you turn the dials the brightness of the red, green and blue change in the LED. Try different combinations to make any color in the rainbow!
ALL-IN-1 DIY SOLDERING PROJECT – Whether you’re an adult, student, or teacher, the high-quality parts and intuitive design make it easy to focus on learning or teaching new soldering skills and basic circuit theory. Our kits come equipped with everything you need for success! Each Hue Kit includes a battery, 1 Hue PCB, 1 RGB LED, 3 resistors, and 3 potentiometers.
STEP-BY-STEP BEGINNER SOLDERING PRACTICE – The goal is for you to have fun experimenting and learning soldering skills, even if you make some mistakes. Our high-quality printed circuit boards are lead-free and resilient which makes them perfect for beginners. Plus, we provide you with step-by-step instructions for each kit to take away any intimidation or uncertainty about completing your project.
ASSEMBLE IN LESS THAN 1 HOUR – Each of our Kits is specifically designed for people with no prior experience, and intended to be a simple and fun introduction to soldering and electronics. It gives beginners plenty of opportunity to practice and perfect their soldering skills without being overwhelmed. Assembly time is approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour. Perfect for college students, introductory courses, kids and teens STEM classes, afterschool programs (robotics), and more.
MADE IN USA – Learn to Solder Kits has different kits for various skill levels so you can learn to make things that blink, beep and move. All our kits are designed and packed in the USA. Our products are all certified Open Source Hardware.
Customers appreciate the value for money, ease of assembly, and fun of the product. They mention it’s a great kit for beginners and kids, with easy-to-follow instructions. Some say the kit provides for soldering practice at different difficulty levels. They also appreciate the design and quality.

Great little kit
The pdf instructions had a nice balance of brevity and advice. The pcb and parts were sturdy enough and functional. The instructions move from easier solders to more difficult ones. My only complaint: I would have loved to see an explanation of the parts, the electrical diagram and the design of the pcb in the pdf so I can figure out what questions to ask next. I would suggest buying specialty tape to hold some of the parts on if you don’t have a third hand setup.

Easy To Use, Fun To Assemble
Instructions look great and are really easy to use. One minor point – the hexagonal PCB kit is the Hue 2.0. The previous kit indicated which hole the longest lead on the LED should go through with a dash but the 2.0 uses a square copper pad instead. This isn’t reflected in the directions (which are otherwise excellent) so if you haven’t used other kits this could be a stumbling block. Still, five stars, excellent product. If you have never soldered before when you are done it feels like you really accomplished something without it being too challenging. I bought this and the Blink kit and they are a blast to assemble while still having rewarding functionality at the end. Looking forward to bigger kits for intermediate skill levels from this brand.

Very fun and straightforward project
I’ve been teaching myself to solder and I really felt like I’d wasted money on a lot of previous learn-to-solder kits, but this one was great. The instructions were incredibly concise and it was a simple and sturdy enough circuit that I was eventually able to get it working perfectly even while making a few mistakes here and there. And, more importantly, the project left me feeling like I’d made something cool, something that wasn’t just going to sit around gathering dust (the colors are fun, and I keep it in my perpetually dark bathroom closet as a light.) I’m really glad I did this, and am intrigued by the other Learn to Solder Kits.

Great kit: easy to solder & fun to play with
I’ve soldering dozens of kits. What makes this one fun is the playability of the finished product. It’s super easy to assemble & solder. The website instructions are clear. And the finished circuit is quite useful because mixing LED colors is not so intuitive: this kit really helps.

Great product but dont teach anything about electronics
The board and components are all high quality. The instructions were great and gave a great overview of how to solder.Negatives: expensive for what it is. 13 bucks for something that is a throw away learning tool. I do like the great instructions but there is no teaching of how to use this on future products. Explain what resistor (or any other component) is doing. Please feel free to contact if I am wrong and there is more to this

Great kit for kids (and adults)
Got this for my 9-year-old to do with my help. I know how to solder (I wouldn’t say I’m good at it but I know the process) but he didn’t really need a lot of my help to do it. He was able to follow the directions, make the project and in the end the lights are pretty cool. Good product.

A Triumph for My Sixth-Grader
I know nothing about soldering but my 11 year-old was interested in learning. I got them a soldering iron kit and this soldering project. The board has been thoughtfully designed and the instructions (pdf provided online) are clearly and well written. My kiddo did a bit of additional research on proper soldering technique and then dove in. I simply sat and watched for safety. It was a great triumph when the final pad was soldered, the switch flipped, and the LED lit up! It was a really fun skill and esteem-building exercise. Highly recommended. Thanks to the designers.
