Soldering Iron Kit
I am new to soldering, but this kit seems to be a decent choice for beginners. It includes everything needed to start practicing and learning. However, I find that the soldering iron feels cheap, takes a while to heat up, and the temperature control doesn’t seem very accurate.

Great set for beginners or for your truck/van tool kit
This kit is so affordable that there’s no reason not to get it as a starting place for beginners wanting to experiment with microelectronics, wiring and soldering. It would also be a good gift for a young kid who you think might be interested in STEM. It’s got all the basic tools needed to get started (and quite a few I didn’t pick up for quite a long time). If you wind up liking it and soldering or pulling out the multimeter more than once every few months, plan on investing in some upgrades. As but one example, there’s no comparison between the soldering iron in this kit and a digitally controlled one with a fast heat-up time. Yes, this one *works* but the faster you upgrade after mastering the basics the happier you’ll be.Once you’ve “outgrown” this kit, it’ll be a great addition to your truck or van’s tool kit. You don’t want to keep your Fluke or Hakko in the trunk, and this kit is more than good enough to diagnose a wide range of automotive electrical problems. For what it is, and the price point, it’s fantastic. But it’s for beginners, or your car’s tool kit. Not for daily use.

Enough power for small applications
I like all the little extras that the kit comes with and all the extra tips in different shapes are absolutely useful especially working with electronics or PCB boards. My issue with this iron is with the temperature control and the amount of time the iron takes to heat up itself or it’s target for the solder. If you want to use the iron at full power, you’re looking at 10 minutes for it to heat up and another 10 minutes for it to heat 16 gauge, stranded copper wires to the point that they would accept the weld and my solder would run. It barely ran too. A beginner working with very small electronics or wire gauges could probably get some decent use out of this iron, but it just doesn’t make enough power to weld most things in my opinion. You can just forget the temp gauge. The knob and the print are both so small there’s no way you could reliably set the iron to make a certain temp and then expect it to reach and hold it. It’d be luck if you did. Ok for a hobbyist, but makes very little heat or power.

Great for beginners
This is not a set that I would use professionally or for more intricate repairs. It is $20, and you are getting $20 of value out of it.This has the basics of a soldering set, and a basic multimeter. If you want to do small repairs around the house, want to learn a couple new skills, or want a set for a responsible teenager who wants to get into a tech career, this is a neat set. I wouldn’t expect this set to outlive anyone, and to be worn down with time. But if you’re wanting to get into electronics repairs, this covers your bases quite cheaply.

Struggling on how to rate this…
I’m really struggling on how to rate this. This is definitely a case of “You get what you pay for”My struggle is this is a cheap kit… none of the components are great. They get the most basic of jobs done and that’s it. On the other hand, it was $20… and I can’t really fault a kit like this for being cheap and only being $20. It’s a good buy for $20 if you need something to keep in the back of the closet at the vacation house where you don’t have your real tools. That’s what i use it for … I keep it in the drawer where I don’t have my regular tools handy.Don’t expect accuracy or control with this… it’s more like using a 3lb sledge to drive a picture nail in. It can be done, you just have to be delicate with it and be aware of the limitations. For basic work or for beginners/kids learning how to solder and/or use a multimeter… this is great. If you need to do any sort of precision work you should probably look elsewhere (and spend a bit more than $20).

Reliable Introductory Soldering Iron Set
I found this to be a reliable introductory set, ideal for beginners or ad hoc soldering jobs. It contains a soldering tool, multimeter, simple apparatus like tweezers and a solder sucker. Itâs not top-notch equipment, but itâs good enough to handle typical electronic work with a high level of functionality. If youâre a newbie in the world of soldering or need something handy and easy to take with you, then it will be a perfect choice.
