Sn60Pb40 RA Solder Wire is an electronic grade solder wire. It uses a classical tin-to-lead alloy ratio, which is complemented with a RA-like flux core. The solder wires meet J-STD-004B, ASTM B 32, and exceeds J-STD-006C specifications. It melts at a slightly higher temperature and over a wider range than the 63/37 solder. It results in robust and reliable joints that are highly resistant to whisker formation. The 489x leaded solders achieve a consistent solder and flux percentage through a state-of-the-art, extrusion, wire-drawing machine. This machine continually monitors the wire to prevent voids and ensure consistency, providing a top-grade solder wire.

The package arrived before it’s time. Since M.G. Chemicals is a popular brand, I was ready to test the product and compare it to the ones you find at 3-4$. While I was reparing a switch, I first tried with some cheap solder from unknown brand. The solder wasn’t able to grab the copper easily, and I tried melting the cheap solder but it wasn’t able to turn to liquid. After an hour of trying, I tested this M.G. Chemicals 4890 solder. In one second, the solder melted, the flux appeared, and the repair was done. Yes, you pay higher than the cheap solder from unknown brands, but you also get one of the most effective solder of the market. Also, with 1 lb or spool, you get enough solder you won’t need to buy another spool for a long time.The only complain was that the stickers on the top and bottom of the spool looks like it’s been used. But when you think about it, who cares if it works like a charm?

MG Chemicals 60/40 leaded solder is a high quality, industry standard solder right up there with Kester. Does exactly what you expect for a more reasonable price.
