M.G. Chemicals rosin activated flux formula is used in our flux-cored solder wire. Its rapid wetting and fast flowing properties results in consistent and reliable soldering every time. Cleaning becomes optional with our RA Flux core because of its non-corrosive and electrically non-conductive properties. Includes contents 60 percent tin, 40 percent lead. Physical and chemical characteristics (flux extract): RA. Color and appearance: amber solid. Softening point, degree C (flux extract): 80 degree. Acid number (mgKOH/g sample): 150-160. Silver chromate (qualitative halides): detection. Classification per J-STD-004: ROM1. Surface insulation resistance: > 1.0 x 109. Shelf life: indefinite. Residue removal: not required. Upper temperature limit: do not to exceed 260 degree C (tip temperature).

Works great
Not much more to say than that. I have used some smaller tubes of this rosin core solder before and have been pleased so I just bought an entire spool of the product. I have had no problems with bad solder joints ( that were caused by the solder) since I have been using the stuff.

Good soldering wire
Worked great on car electronics.

Good.
It is good solder but it is not multi-core. To be honest I think Loctite makes the best multi-core solder. While this solder is good and I do get clean shiny results the Loctite brand is just that much better.

MG 4890 60/40 solder
The 60/40 rosin core solder is a great size to do any fine electronic soldering, and if you have to do any heavier soldering, just fold a length of it in half, and then twist it together.I would recommend for any size job you have.

Wrong weight
Listing says half pound (8 oz). my roll didnât have any plastic on it. The solder was held down by a piece of masking tape & was underweight at 7.2 oz. Make sure you weigh your rolls

Having tried a few other brands, I have to say I really like this MG Chemicals solder. Flows beautifully when soldering wires together and I’ve never had a bad joint when using this stuff regardless of whether I’m using my butane soldering iron, a smaller electric iron or even a torch for heavy gauge wire. This particular version is quite fine so it’s best used for smaller wires (say 12 gauge and up) but I have used it to solder 1 gauge wire in a pinch when I’m out of the larger diameter version of this product and it still works great, you’ll just use a lot more. In short, I can’t recommend this solder enough, it may be more expensive than some options out there but it’s worth the expense for the great results it produces.

This is great solder for electronics work. The rosin flux really helps it to adhere to the PCB and components and leaves a minimal residue afterwards. Definitely buy this 60/40 solder instead of the lead free alternatives. Lead free solder is definitely not worth the trouble it causes, especially if you have a cheap iron. The small diameter makes it really easy to work with and to control how much solder you flow on to a joint. This is a great deal for a very high quality product. I’m very happy with this MG Chemicals solder and other products I’ve bought from them in the past!

I am new to electronics and was using the stuff that came with my soldering iron. I thought I had difficulty with learning soldering technique or there was a problem with the soldering iron (poor thermostatic control or insufficient thermal mass). Then this solder arrived – it flows beautifully and I find I can actually solder and my iron works perfectly. This is certainly one of the “good brands” that are always recommended by experienced hands!
