Excellent soldering practice kit
These were fun to assemble and let me get some more practice doing SMT soldering. The side mount RGB LEDs are very cool!

A superior candidate for a first-time SMD practice kit!
I enjoy soldering as a hobby. For years, I’ve ordered DIY kits such as this one to keep my skills honed.Lately, I’ve been trying to apply it to other skills, such as repairing/restoring electronic devices, and possibly making my own circuits beyond the simple LED circuits I usually make. But, I haven’t done any SMD soldering for a while, and I’m still hitting the books regarding circuit design, so I saw this kit and thought I’d try my hand at it.My review title summarizes my thoughts: This kit is perfect if you want to try SMD component soldering, don’t want to design or source your own components, but still want something functional to show for it.Why? For three reasons:1. The SMD components are 1206 sized, so in comparison to other sizes, these are large, and that makes them easier to handle. Some SMD components are so tiny, literally a light exhaled breath through one’s nose will send them flying, likely never to be seen again. Starting off with such tiny components just makes it that much more difficult. Ask me how I know!2. This kit is comprised of several very small PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards). This could make it less daunting for some beginners, knowing they can just focus on one board at a time, rather than looking at a regular sized board and seeing the massive number of components that need to be soldered down.3. Most of all, this kit comes with really good instructions! So often, kits just give a QR code that leads to a suspicious website, from which you download a manual written in really broken English, and may or may not have the steps in the correct order. Or, the kits have a folded, faded piece of paper that again is written in really broken English. Now, the instructions aren’t perfect here, but they are very good. There are some pointers I feel should be covered in the instructions, and I’ll share them in a moment. But to close out this review, I again say this is an excellent kit if you want to try out soldering SMD components. While this kit didn’t frustrate me, that meant I enjoyed it all the more since it was relaxing. Now, onto those pointers:First, when soldering SMD components, it is generally recommended to “tack” them down on side or leg, then soldering down the other side/legs. To do this, apply a LITTLE solder to ONE pad. Using a device that will steady your grip on the components (tweezers or fine pliers), move the component to the pad. Once you’re read to slide the component over, reflow the solder with your iron, and smoothly slide the component to the molten solder. While still holding the component down and into the molten solder, remove the iron, and wait a few seconds for the solder to cool. You’ve successfully “tacked down” an SMD component and can now solder the other point(s) of the component.2. Use pointer 1 on the connection pads. Per the instructions, be sure to solder “V” and “G” pads to each other respectively (Don’t solder a “V” pad to a “G” pad). To make this a little easier, tin the pads with a small blob of solder each, then add more solder to your iron when you join the boards together at the pads. Done right, the tinned blobs will merge together with the iron, forming a strong connection.3. Finally, you don’t have to solder a USB C port to ALL of the boards, IF you’re going to connect them. If any of the boards will not be connected to another, then you will need to solder a USB C port to it. This gives you more flexibility in choosing how to power the boards.I hope all who get this kit enjoy it as much as I did!

Become a Soldering Master
As a padawan of the Jedi soldering arts, I found this Soldering Project Kit to be a fantastic tool for improving my skills. The kit includes thick, high-quality circuit boards and fun LED components that make verifying solder joints intuitive. The set is perfect for me, a new soldering beginner, and provides an inexpensive way to improve without fearing damaging your wifeâs Dyson hair dryer⦠Not the best place to start practicing.Donât turn to the soldering dark side. The only thing you need to be aware of is that soldering is challenging, especially if you have big sausage hands like me. I would strongly recommend watching a bunch of YouTube videos and picking up a tube of flux, leaded solder, solder wick, helping hands, and a fume extractor. While you can muddle by, having the right equipment helps a lot in getting your solder to behave.Purchase Price: $9.99Pros:- The kit includes durable circuit boards.- The instructions were fairly easy to understand.- Extra LEDs and resistors included.- LEDs are pretty cool.- InexpensiveCons:- The instructions could be more detailed.- The components are tiny and require magnification and steady hands.

Great little kit for practicing surface mount soldering
With this kit, you get 25 surface mount resistors, 25 surface mount LEDs, 5 PCBs, 5 USB-C connectors and one USB-A to USB-C cable for power. The goal is to solder the aforementioned surface mount parts and USB ports to the 5 PCBs and then (optionally) solder those PCBs together in the geometry of your choice. You will get plenty of practice soldering surface mount components with this kit. I recommend that you watch some instructional videos for tips on developing proper technique. Also, be aware that the resistors and LEDs are super tiny, so magnification is not only recommended, but dare I say essential, especially for those of us with “old eyes”. Good luck!

Nice little soldering practice kit.
I haven’t built this yet, but the circuit boards look to be of good quality. The instructions are fairly easy to understand, but are a bit sparse as it is only one side of a sheet of paper. The kit came with 5 boards, 5 USB-C ports, 35 LEDs, 35 Resistors, and 1 USB cable. The Instructions indicate it only comes with 25 LEDs and Resistors, but as there are 6 of each used per board you need at least 30 of each. The only gotchas I found are, the USB port needs to be on the side of the board with the outline, and when soldering the boards to each other, you need to make sure that you only solder V to V and G to G.There are 4 corners that can be soldered when the boards are slotted together, you only solder the two where the letters match up. Two of the options when the boards are slotted together will short out the power and ground in the assembly. You only need to use one USB port for each final assembly. This can be built as 5 individual boards, or just one assembly, or anything in between.

GREAT FOR BEGINNER OR INTERMEDIATE….
This little kit is perfect for me as a novice (okay, beginner) who is exceedingly poor at soldering at the current moment. Ever see those videos of those folks with apparently magic hands that seem to command the solder onto just the right delicate parts? That’s not me, but with this kit hopefully that can start to change. This is a high quality printed circuit board that includes a fun little LED flash setup to verify the quality of your soldering. It’s made to practice on, so you can get much better much faster without having to ruin your more expensive processors and chips. Great educational use as well for any class for beginners electronics.
