Beginner says YES!
This product is Great! I am a beginner, never done this before. It was easy to operate, did a great job, first try on a broken lawn tractor hood. Weld was surprisingly strong and tough. I am impressed. Comes with many accessories, which made life easy and nice. Go ahead and take the plunge, it’s a good product.

Way better than I expected
I bought this with one thing in mind– fixing the plastic fairings on my motorcycle.My bike is old and, although it doesn’t look like it’s ever been laid down, some of the fairings had mounting tabs that had cracked off. Vibration, heat, and years of UV will do that to plastic. I had already fixed one with fiberglass and epoxy but holding it in position until the resin dried was a bit of a pain. I had a couple more tabs to do and coincidentally saw a video of someone using a hot stapler like this one. It didn’t take long for me to start searching for an inexpensive one to try out.When I bought it, this was the cheapest hot stapler with decent reviews. It cost $23 and at that price I expected it to help me fix a few fairings and then maybe burst into flames or electrocute me.Well, I haven’t been electrocuted or lit on fire (at least not by this tool). In all I sunk maybe a half dozen staples into the fairings, then used epoxy and fiberglass cloth to reinforce the areas wherever I could. Even without the fiberglass, the repairs were pretty strong. After the epoxy dried, the mounting tabs were at least as strong as they were from the factory, probably stronger.I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to use. The price was low but it works fine and doesn’t feel cheap. The position and depth of the staples was easy enough to control, which was a relief because the fairings are thin and I was afraid of blowing a staple out through the other side.This tool paid for itself in a single use. The sub-$25 I spent wouldn’t even buy a single fairing for my old bike (assuming I could even find any) so I’m dollars ahead already.This is a great entry-level tool if you want to fix a couple of things quickly and inexpensively. It’s also a good starter tool if you’re on the fence about how useful it will be. It does a good enough job to earn a spot in my toolbox. I’ll keep using it until it either breaks or I run out of things to fix.

Surprisingly effective for mending plastics, but with limitations
With so many things made from plastics in our lives, and the limitations imposed by the material’s durability, there will be plenty of opportunities to put this to the test.I bought this because of an immediate need â the lid of plastic container that I use for sous vide cooking had several splits in it and was coming apart. It’s still usable, but the splits were bound to grow and separate into individual pieces before long. So I thought I’d try to get some more useful life out of it by repairing the splits using this stapler.I think this tool is designed to be used on thicker material than this lid, which is about 1/16″ thick, at the most. That makes it quite difficult to penetrate to the correct depth and hold it in place until it cools down enough to be able to release the staple and withdraw the tool from the work. On this thin plastic, it seemed to remain hot and ‘melty’ for longer than I expected, and it was hard to hold it in the right place. It’s easy to be a little too deep and start to emerge from the other side, or maybe not be quite deep enough and part of the staple is proud of the surface.But I have to admit, despite the imperfect positioning, the repaired areas seem to be fairly robust. I’m not expecting miracles, but I do think it’ll prolong the life of the lid indefinitely with some gentle handling.One thing that my experience showed was that this would probably work well in tandem with a second tool â one that could be used to melt and smooth over the edges that puckered up around where the wire melted its way into the surface. I think a two-step approach like this would provide a superior repair, both in strength and appearance.I appreciate that there were 4 styles of staples supplied, but imagine that the ones designed for inside and outside corners will be the least frequently used, and I’ll have to purchase more of the flat-surface joiners at some point, as they’ll probably be the first to be used-up.There’s a small pair of side cutters in the kit, and it’s nearly useless. The handles are so short that it’s tough to get enough leverage to snip the stainless steel wire that makes up the staples unless the wire is positioned deeply into the jaws near the fulcrum point. Trying to snip off a staple with it n ear the tip of the jaws is virtually impossible. I wound up getting out my rotary tool with a thin grinding disc and cutting the staples off that way. As it turns out, it’s pretty much necessary to do that to get the end ground down so that it doesn’t stick out, anyway. The snips won’t allow you to cut it close enough to the surface, so cutting it off with the rotary cool is a good way to accomplish this. And it’s quick enough that it doesn’t generate enough heat to re-melt the plastic and weaken the repair. I find it easier to just use the rotary tool to cut off and finish the job, rather than clip/snip the staple with the cutter and then grind it down. They give you some small rounds of sandpaper, but I’m not going to try to use that to sand down the wire ends…There’s some useless verbiage on the box labeling: “REPAIR OF TIN FLATTENING” , “BRAZING HOT BY WELDING”, and “CUTTING HOT NAIL BREAKING”. I guess it’s nice to hype your product by making up things it can supposedly do, even if you don’t understand what they’re talking about. Needless to say, I don’t think I’ll be using it for these purposes.But I’ll give it an honest shot anytime something plastic cracks or breaks, and hope that it’s up to the task.A little early to tell how often this will be used, but it’s at least something to try!

Miracle worker
This thing has far exceeded my expectations. It is super easy to use, heats up quickly, and works as intended. I would make sure to use a mask or work in a well ventilated area when using this because of the fumes, I donât believe that would be good to breathe. I bought it with the intent to give a half baked job at saving some of my bikes fairings. This thing has COMPLETELY saved ALL of them. I needed to bondo over a few things when all was said and done just to get it back to super smooth, but holy cow. I completely refabricated about a 3-4 inch bridge of plastic that was missing up near my cluster using the wire mesh, melting it into the plastic that was still there and bending it into the correct shape. Slapped some bondo on top of that, sanded it smooth and itâs solid. See pictures for most of the heavy lifting this thing can do. 10/10. Saved me $500 on a new set of fairings. Just need to repaint now.

Takes a little practice but it is easy to use. I would highly recommend this if you want to mend plastic.

It works great at repairing my son’s glass.
My son broke his $400 eye glass and I tried crazy but it came apart. I finally decided to use this product. It work so quick and I did a little sanding and his glass is holding. Saved Money.

I bought this product to fix a broken plastic handle which is very hard to get a replacement.I like this set of products cause it has everything all in one set compared to the others but the quality of the welder gun is crap.The welder gun has blown after burning the second wire.

This Product comes with Quite a bit of Stuff.I would Try to avoid using Extension Cords while using the Welding Gun. It would have been Nice to have a thinner Gauge Mesh for Repairs. Staples work Very Well, to anyone New to Plastic Welding I would say to Practice on a few Test Pieces before Using the Plastic Welder.
